Dr. Christine Khandelwal graduated from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed a residency in Family Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Khandelwal realized her passion for caring for the complex, geriatric, and seriously ill population, which led her to pursue a Geriatrics Fellowship, concentrating in Hospice and Palliative Medicine, at UNC Chapel Hill. Dr. Khandelwal has been practicing as a clinician educator, developing programs for the past ten years, including developing the Inpatient Palliative Care Consult Service at the Wake Med Hospital System where she also served as faculty for Wake Med Internal Medicine Residency Program in Raleigh, North Carolina.
More recently, Dr. Christine Khandelwal has transitioned into a new role to develop a new palliative care consultation program in a rural, underserved hospital system, serving as Professor of Family Medicine at Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine, Director of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine. Dr. Khandelwal brings her experiences and expertise in education to this region to provide interprofessional medical education and training in the field of palliative medicine to improve the care of our vulnerable population.
Dr. Khandelwal serves in several leadership roles to represent the field of hospice and palliative medicine, including being appointed to serve on the North Carolina Medicine Board, a position appointed by NC Governor Roy Cooper. As the first HPM physician in the state to serve on the Board, she participates in decisions on important issues and topics such as fair access to restricted medications and ensuring more access to care across the state.
