Chief of Palliative Care

David Casarett MD MA is a palliative care physician and health services researcher whose work focuses on improving systems of care for people with serious, life-threatening illnesses. He is a professor of Medicine at Duke University, Director of the Duke Center for Palliative Care, and the Chief of Palliative Care in Duke Health. Dr. Casarett is the author of articles in journals including JAMA and The New England Journal of Medicine. He has published three nonfiction books and two novels, and his writing has appeared in print and online in Salon, Esquire, Discover, Newsweek, the New York Times, and Wired.
